Here at Meloncase, we promote the use of protective gear for recreational activities, primarily helmets. People are so active these days, but a lot of them do not wear the correct head gear to protect themselves in the event of a crash, fall, or unexpected impact.
It doesn’t take much and it happens everyday. And live are changed all the time due to the detrimental effects of head injuries that occur due to lack of wearing a helmet. Helmets are there to help you come back to the activity again tomorrow.
We do these activities, like skiing, skateboarding, motorcycle riding, horse back riding, mountain biking, and such because we love the trill and excitement they bring to our lives. However, what is the point if you injure yourself and can’t do it anymore.
If Only They Had Been Wearing Helmets
There are countless stories about young kids with head injuries that can no longer function as an independent person. They have to rely on others to do simple acts, like eating and going to the bathroom. Of course there are success stories, like the one of Danny Toumarkine, who survived a Traumatic Brain Injury on routine jump while riding in Montana.
Danny, one of the best in the world of snowboarding, was able to overcome his injuries and get back to riding. However, his opinion, and the opinion of those who went through this ordeal with him, on wearing a snowboarding helmet have dramatically changed. Danny is now an advocate for helmet awareness when snowboarding. Here is his story:
Doctors have been unable to determine if his death was related to the brain injury, but due to his age, it would be hard to rule it out. Here is a short news story on Georgie:
A quick search of Georgie Tsushima on Google and you will find a plethora of videos of him doing some pretty amazing tricks. The videos show him trying the tricks over and over until he pulls it off. He takes some pretty big spills and it is easy to see how any of the falls could result in injury. Of course, not once do you see him wearing a helmet.
It is a tragedy. His tricks were amazing, but they wouldn’t have been any less amazing if he was wearing a helmet. He had so much more to offer this world and the world of skateboarding. He will surely be missed.
Helmets for a Variety of Recreational Activities
There are a number of different recreational sports where wearing a helmet is highly recommended, not just snowboarding or skateboarding as presented above.
Any sport where your head may come into contact with a solid object at high speed is a candidate for proper head protection. Here is a rundown of the helmet we promote on this website.
